While Liriope, also commonly known as lilyturf or monkey grass, is considered one of the best ground cover plants that love shade, it does have the tendency to spread if it's not kept under control.

It isn’t perfect sod, but I think it looks pretty good. While standard varieties have a deep dark green leaf, liriope does have a variegated variety that can add nice color to the landscape.
