Azelastine is an antihistamine. It works by preventing the effects of a substance called histamine, which is produced by the body.

In Dymista, azelastine hydrochloride an antihistamine, and fluticasone propionate, a corticosteroid work in different yet complementary ways. Azelastine hydrochloride blocks the release and actions of histamine, a chemical responsible for causing many of the symptoms of allergy.

Fluticasone Propionate is a steroid which works by blocking the release of certain chemical messengers that cause inflammation (swelling) and irritation in the nose. Azelastine is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes and sneezing.
