    Side effects

    Common side effects

    • Pruritus of skin

    • Skin irritation
    • Stinging of skin
    • Abnormal desquamation
    • Erythema

    Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including

    • Signs of liver disease
    • Unusual tiredness
    • Muscle weakness
    • Slurred speech
    • Blurred vision
    • Drooping eyelids
    • Hearing loss

    Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including

    • Severe dizziness
    • Fainting
    • Fast/irregular heartbeat

    This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition due to a type of resistant bacteria. This condition may occur during treatment or weeks to months after treatment has stopped. Tell your doctor right away if you develop

    • Persistent diarrhea
    • Abdominal or stomach pain/cramping
    • Blood/mucus in your stool

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing

    Other things to note

    • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain/cramping, and loss of appetite may occur. Taking this medication with food may lessen these symptoms. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
    • Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of these symptoms because these products may make them worse.
    • Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in oral thrush or a new yeast infection. Contact your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth, a change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms.

    Precautions

    • Do not touch tip of tube
    • Swallow tablets whole
    • For capsule, delayed release products : Swallow whole. Do not break/chew/crush/dissolve. May take with food if stomach upset occurs. Watch for oral thrush or vaginal yeast infections. Call MD if new abdominal pain/yellowing eyes/skin. Tell doctor if fainting or faintness occurs. Review all drugs you are taking with your doctor. Report severe diarrhea or abdominal pain to doctor.
    • For ointment products : Tell your pharmacist & Dr if you have allergies. Do not wear soft contact lenses during treatment. For external use only. Prevent contamination. Wash hands before and after using. Clean and dry skin, then use a thin layer on area. Wait 5 min. before other eye medications. Avoid contact with eyes, inside of nose or mouth. Success is dependent on completing therapy course. Important to try not to skip doses. May cause a temporary stinging/burning feeling. May blur vision. Use caution when driving. May take months for full benefit of therapy. Redness or irritation may occur at application site.
    • For solution, non-oral products : Use at the same time(s) daily as directed. Wash hands after applying. Call Dr before increasing dose or frequency. May take 3 months for full benefit of therapy. Call doctor if you are not getting better. Keep medicine away from heat or flames.
    • For tablet products : Take 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. Do not chew or crush.
