Conjunctivitis—often called “pink eye”—is inflammation of the conjunctiva from infection or allergies. Your eyes are red and swollen (inflamed), and sometimes they have a sticky discharge. The small blood vessels in the conjunctiva become swollen making them red.

Conjunctivitis is a common condition where the white part of your eye becomes pink or red. One or both eyes may be watery, sore or itchy, sometimes with sticky white or yellow discharge. Conjunctivitis can be caused by bacterial or viral infections, allergies, or irritants such as dust or chemicals.
