Types of Protocol Analyzers

There are two main types of protocol analyzers:

1. Hardware Protocol Analyzer: This type uses both hardware and software to capture and analyze packets transmitted by the interface for downstream analysis. Examples include UFS protocol analyzers, eMMC protocol analyzers, and PCIe protocol analyzers².

2. Software Protocol Analyzer: Also known as a network analyzer, this type uses only software to collect and analyze protocols. It is commonly used for local area networks, wireless networks, etc. A well-known example is Wireshark¹.
