    Side effects

    Common side effects

    • Upper respiratory infection
    • Constipation
    • Pruritus of skin
    • Dizziness
    • Skin rash
    • Nausea
    • Diarrhea
    • Acute abdominal pain
    • Appetite changes
    • Headache disorder
    • Cramps
    • Musculoskeletal pain
    • Arthralgia
    • Pain in oropharynx

    If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly

    • Diarrhea
    • Abdominal pain
    • Headache

    Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including

    • Symptoms of a low magnesium blood level
    • Signs of lupus

    This medication may rarely cause a severe intestinal condition due to a type of bacteria. Do not use anti-diarrhea or opioid medications if you have any of the following symptoms because these products may make them worse. Tell your doctor right away if you develop

    • Persistent diarrhea
    • Abdominal or stomach pain/cramping
    • Fever
    • Blood/mucus in your stool

    A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including

    • Rash
    • Itching/swelling
    • Severe dizziness
    • Trouble breathing
    • Signs of kidney problems

    Other things to note

    • Rarely, proton pump inhibitors have caused vitamin B-12 deficiency. The risk is increased if they are taken every day for a long time . Tell your doctor right away if you develop symptoms of vitamin B-12 deficiency .

    Precautions

    • Before use, important to read the Medication Guide
    • Do not use in children under 1 year old.
    • Take before meal(s) at same time(s) each day.
    • Review all drugs you are taking with your doctor
    • May increase risk of bone fractures.
    • Call doctor if you get severe diarrhea
    • Do not chew
    • For capsule, delayed release products : Swallow capsule whole. May open capsule. Mix into cool applesauce & swallow.
    • For tablet, disintegrating, delayed release products : Place unbroken tablet on tongue to dissolve. Before using tell Dr. if you have phenylketonuria.

    Warnings

    • Use this medication before a meal. Read label carefully for how many times to use each day.
    • Do not chew or crush before swallowing.
    • For capsule, delayed release products : Capsule may be opened and contents sprinkled over soft food. Swallow mixture immediately without chewing.
    • For suspension, delayed release, reconst. products : Warning: Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this drug. Consult your doctor or pharmacist.
    • For tablet, disintegrating, delayed release products : Open packaging with dry hands. Dissolve medicine on the tongue or in the mouth.
